Precinct websites were recommended at this  “BROADENING THE APPEAL OF PRECINCTS FORUM” held in North Sydney and co-hosted by Randwick Council in October 2009.

This website was established shortly after the forum by the then Secretary of the La Perouse Precinct.  It has not been sanctioned as an official website and the Chair of the La Perouse Precinct has requested that it not be referred to as “La Perouse Precinct”.

Should you require electronic copies of agendas and minutes from the La Perouse Precinct please contact the Chair at this Randwick City Council link.  If you are interested in other websites run by precincts within Randwick Municipality there is only one – run by Matraville and recommended – see    www.matraville.info .

Minutes of Ordinary Meeting, Monday 1 November 2010,Prince Henry Centre

The meeting opened 7.10pm. There were 13 people present including Clr Robert Belleli as observer.

  1. discussion ensued about the possibility of Council erecting signs at the entrances to the Precinct advertising Precinct Committees and inviting participation.
  2. Preliminary discussions arose in relation to items for next years draft capital works budget. It was decided to finalise the list at the December meeting of the Precinct Committee.
  • a footpath on the southern side of  Grose St was requested
  • provision of 2 disabled car parking spaces at the corner of Endeavor Ave and the Anzac Pde Loop were requested for disabled access to the restaurants. Council is requested to refer this item to the disabled access committee
  • Repainting of current disabled spaces in La Perouse and use of disabled car parking by mobile food and ice cream sellers to be policed
  • a resident of Iluka reported that a garbage retention net in the waterway running through Iluka has  not been cleaned out and is now full.
  • The increasing nuisance of noisy motor cycles visiting a particular shop in La Perouse was reported. These motorbikes were frequently made to emit maximum noise on leaving the loop going along Anzac Pde toward Phillip Bay. It has been reported that La Perouse at times is denoted as a destination on the Harley club’s website. Council is requested to contact the club and ask it to request their members to act responsibly in relation to noise at La Perouse. It was stated that a similar action by Council in relation to yelling/swearing by bike riders was highly successful in eliminating the problem.
  • The danger of bike riders on the roads was discussed especially in relation to cyclists overtaking cars on the inside as cars slowed down to negotiate roundabouts. Cyclist on  Bunnerong Rd between Military Rd and Anzac Pde were  stated to present a danger to themselves and motorists as it was often the case that heavy oncoming traffic forced cars to either stay behind the cyclist for a long time or try to negotiate a less than safe overtake using the other side of the road as cyclists insisted on remaining two abreast.
  • The meeting was closed 8:30 PM and the AGM followed.

Development applications and personal information on websites – issues for local councils fact sheet November 2010 The OIC’s first consultation paper  oic_consultation_paper_1 is designed to give us a better understanding of the way local government currently publishes information about development applications (DAs) on council websites.   The OIC would like members of the public to tell them: · whether the information on council websites about DAs is adequate and appropriate · what type of information, if any, should not be published about DAs · whether councils should consult individuals if they plan to publish their personal information on council websites.   The closing date for responses is Friday 14 January 2011. To request a hard copy of the consultation paper, please contact the OIC on telephone 1800 INFOCOM (1800 463 626) or email oicinfo@oic.nsw.gov.au. Minutes of Meeting  7.30 pm Monday11 Oct 2010, Prince Henry Centre

1.There were 11 people in attendance including Councillor Belleli as observer.

2.Prince Henry Centre Draft Plan of Management

Initial discussions were held on this matter but taking into account the unusually low attendance it was decided to further discuss the draft plan at future meetings to give those members not at the meeting a chance  to   have their say.

The discussions did however include aspects such as :

  • The name of the Centre does not reflect its main purpose ie a community centre for use by the community
  • The plan is one for a function centre as a Council business enterprise not a community centre
  • The plan does encourage or even allow for free  informal  use by the plethora of the extant community groups except in the café where it costs and would be inappropriate for groups of any size
  • There is no library as promised
  • There is no common  room/informal meeting room/reading room for walk in use by members of the community
  • There are no office facilities for use by community groups

3.  Proposed B-Double Trucks on the southern end run of Botany Rd. Bunnerong Rd and Military Rd.

The above proposed truck route was unanimously opposed by the Committee for the following reasons

Brings heavy overlong trucks into community traffic along Bunnerong Rd which is an imposition of unnecessary risk and danger. Previous accidents at the intersections involved large trucks crunching up cars

Unnecessarily interferes with community traffic

Unnecessarily interferes with funeral CORTAGES. The Plaster Board Factory commission of inquiry imposed a condition that no large trucks were to use the Military Rd /Bunnerong Rd intersection during daylight hours.

Pushes heavy industry tone into the residential fringe

4. Chinese Market Gardens

The various efforts by the various proponents for and against the retention of the Gardens were again discussed.

It was unanimously resolved by the Committee to reconfirm its resolutions of previous meetings that “ the La Perouse Precinct Committee calls on the State Government to ensure that all the land at Phillip Bay currently being utilised by the Chinese Market Gardeners be retained in its entirety and in perpetuity for the sole purpose of Market Gardens.”

6. Proposed AGM

The Chair advised the Committee that the November meeting would be followed by an AGM

The meeting closed 900 pm
